About Q Twins
Identical twins Viggy and Virginia Qwabe share many things, including a puckish sensibility: they keep fans guessing by declining to divulge which of them is singing on any particular track. The Q Twins have been confounding friends and family since 1997, when they were born in the rural town of Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal. As the daughters of Pure Freedom Church in Christ founder Lawrence Qwabe, the twins naturally began singing in church. They became a national cause célèbre in 2019, when Viggy withdrew dramatically from competition on Idols South Africa following her sister's elimination. Signed to DJ Tira's Afrotainment label, the Q Twins began writing their own tracks, with Virginia handling beats and Viggy the music and lyrics. A loping township rhythm sets their hit debut "Hamba" adrift, while other tracks from their 2020 album, The Gift of Love, touch on house ("Umuhle"), gqom ("Laba Abantu"), amapiano ("Vuma") and moving pop balladry ("I Will Always Love You").
