Chile’s vibrant reggaetón and trap scenes don’t often see their local artists reach international heights. Defying expectations, FloyyMenor’s 2024 single “Gata Only” with Cris Mj became an unstoppable viral force within and beyond Latin America, even charting in the upper half of the all-genre US Billboard Hot 100. (A pan-Latin remix with more established hitmakers Anitta and Ozuna certainly didn’t hurt its prospects either.) For the aptly named EL COMIENZO, the breakout star collects his 2024 singles to date along with a couple of brand-new cuts to maximize his global momentum. Echoes of his biggest song thus far reverberate through the similarly airy reggaetón of “A POKA LUZ” and “PELIGROSA”, while “LOREA MAMI” tries a noticeably more aggressive tack. Fellow Chilean acts Lucky Brown and FloyyMenor’s frequent collaborator Lewis Somes make their presence felt as well on perreo-primed moments like “ME GUSTA” and “TU TA RIKA”, respectively.
