With October 2024 marking the 25th anniversary of fabric’s opening, Shygirl was charged with kicking off the celebratory presents series. Always foraging through multiple styles and genres and conjuring thrilling left turns in her own music, the London DJ/producer/singer is a natural choice to salute a venue that’s maintained its place at the vanguard of forward-thinking electronic music while becoming one of Britain’s favourite superclubs. Sure enough, this set is satisfyingly eclectic and staffed with progressive talent, taking in the sophisticated electro-pop of Rose Gray (“Promise Me”), an absorbingly off-kilter collision of 2-step and bone-rattling bass on Hudson Mohawke & Nikki Nair’s “Set the Roof”, Guchon’s union of acid and piano house (“Piano Bros”), the frenetic rave regeneration of George Riley & Hudson Mohawke’s “S e x”, and Shygirl’s own crisply industrial yet seductively warm “Making the Beast” with Jakwob. “I’m super happy to be releasing my fabric mix in celebration of 25 years of the iconic club,” she tells Apple Music. “I managed to include some of my favourite artists including Angelita, Danny Daze, Rose Gray, Cosha and me! There is also an exclusive ‘Club Shy’ intro which I have never shown anyone before. I hope you love it as much as I loved making it.”
