Weyes Blood, born Natalie Mering, distinguished herself as one of the most ambitious indie singer/songwriters of the late 2010s on a run of luxurious baroque-pop albums. The Los Angeles-based artist came of musical age in noise bands and today, that penchant for experimentalism shines through in her obliquely beautiful melodic and chordal motion, bolstered by detailed arrangements recalling her hometown’s canon of ’70s singer/songwriters. Her critical and commercial breakthrough came with 2019’s lush Titanic Rising, led by pop-forward tracks like “Andromeda” and “A Lot’s Gonna Change”, the dreamy twists and turns of which mirror her lyrics’ mysticism and wry humour.
