The Cure emerged from Sussex in the late ‘70s with their trademark disenchantment already an indelible outline. The band's sonic expanse has ranged from lush, timeless indie pop on “The Lovecats” to chugging gothic rock on “Primary” and psych-influenced melancholia on “Lovesong”; even the uncharacteristic glee of “Friday I'm in Love” feels precarious. Through myriad lineup changes, their defining concoction of craggy bass, anguished keys, syrupy guitars and Robert Smith's unrivalled, plaintive wail has given their sound its unmistakable allure.
