Puerto Rican vocalist Lyanno has brought the flavour of left-field R&B (in the vein of acts like The Weeknd) into reggaetón—and found quite a fanbase doing it. As a teenager, he recorded as Gardo, favouring a harder-edged reggaetón vibe. But in 2015 he made a foray into R&B, and the response was so positive he stuck with it, exploring the sound of naked longing on a pair of EPs that struck a nerve. A flood of collaborations followed, including the remarkably successful remix of Alex Rose’s “Toda”. He’s frequently paired up with Rauw Alejandro but has also become a favored collaborator of Myke Towers, Farruko and many others.
