After breaking out in 1988 with the vivacious “Ek Do Teen Char” (One Two Three Four) from the movie Tezaab, Alka Yagnik became a Bollywood playback legend, with more than 12,000 tracks to her credit. You can still hear her classical training in the high-pitched, girlish innocence of songs like “Dekha Hai Pehli Baar” (For the First Time). She also sang flamboyant duets with Udit Narayan, like the sassy “Kisi Disco Mein Jaaye” (If Someone at the Disco), and epic love songs with Kumar Sanu such as “Mere Khwabon Mein Tu” (You Are in My Dreams).
