While some of the sounds that inform Vampire Weekend's brand of Afropop-influenced indie rock are more straightforward, such as Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel, others aren't as obvious. You wouldn't necessarily imagine the preppy four-piece finding inspiration in punk bands like The Clash and The Ramones, or in the ska-punk of Operation Ivy, but somehow it all makes sense.
