The Slits were a crucial part of the British post-punk scene in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. As one of the movement's first female-dominated bands, they paved the way for countless others while blending the edgy sound of post-punk with deep funk and reggae grooves. After their seminal 1979 debut album, Cut, the band only released one more LP before splitting in 1982. Singer Ari Up—John Lydon's stepdaughter—and bassist Tessa Pollitt assembled a new Slits lineup in 2005. They released an album four years later, but Ari's untimely passing in 2010 closed the group's final chapter.
