It took a few intriguing costume changes for Pip Brown to settle on her electro-rock superpowers as Ladyhawke. Early-'00s vehicles for her agitated musical energies included Wellington rockers Two Lane Blacktop and the moody Sydney synth duo Teenager, with Nick Littlemore of P'nau (later Empire of the Sun). Solo at last, Ladyhawke topped the NZ album charts in '08 and copped a pair of ARIA awards in '09, but Brown had already taken flight to London, where her propulsive blend of '80s pop cool and grunge energy had the hip kids in a tizzy. More guitars, more hooks and more attitude bristled on her second album, Anxiety, made in France in 2012.
