Essential Albums
- The G.O.A.T. aims high in a new phase of his skyrocketing career.
- It’s a bold move to call your new album G.O.A.T., but having expanded his appeal with every release, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has earned his bragging rights. Dosanjh’s eleventh album is his longest and most versatile to date. With the aid of more than 20 producers and lyricists, G.O.A.T. struts through the divergent territories explored on 2018 releases like the hip-hop-heavy Con.Fi.Den.Tial and traditional-tipping Roar. As bhangra blends with R&B and folk fuses with electronic beats, the singer-actor proves he can inhabit any role, be it as pained paramour (“Peed”), cheeky charmer (“Jatti”) or playful party-starter (“Whiskey”).
- Diljit Dosanjh uses his signature drawl to impressive effect on Con.Fi.Den.Tial, a collection of Punjabi mood-setters that takes its cue from pop and streetwise R&B. The “Raat Di Gedi” singer sets the tone with opening track “High End”, an unabashed love letter from a fanboy to his Instagram superstar sweetie, while an insistent bassline drives the mid-tempo “Big Scene”. The subtle drama in Dosanjh’s vocal to “Weekend” is a reminder that this busy actor-singer makes as big an impact behind the mic as he increasingly does onscreen.

About Diljit Dosanjh
Hailing from Dosanjh Kalan, Jalandhar, Punjab, singer-songwriter and actor Diljit Dosanjh has solidified himself as one of the defining voices of 21st-century Punjabi music. With a rich discography that runs the gamut from bouncy hall-party classics (“Alrhaan Kuaariaan”) to bold, bravado-infused tracks (“Clash”) to upbeat pop love songs (“Lover”), Dosanjh has helped bring the sound to the global stage. He broke through in 2004 with his debut album Ishq Da Uda Ada and has steadily grown to an unprecedented level of stardom, emerging as one of the top actors in Punjabi film, striking out in Bollywood with the 2016 crime drama Udta Punjab and selling out arenas around the world for his 2022 Born to Shine tour. The following year, he became the first artist to perform at Coachella entirely in Punjabi—an electric set with more than 20 performers onstage. He punctuated Punjabi music’s arrival on the global stage with his most innovative album to date, 2023’s Ghost. Despite being told throughout his career that he would face barriers as a turban-wearing Punjabi Sikh man, Dosanjh continues to break every ceiling, all while challenging stereotypes and innovating on diasporic Punjabi culture.
