About Aimee Mann
Aimee Mann has travelled a path from Boston’s grimy punk clubs to worldwide renown. Born in Virginia in 1960, Mann headed to the Berklee College of Music in Boston in her late teens, studying bass guitar and playing with local bands. In 1983 she formed the New Wave act ’Til Tuesday, which hit big in 1985 with the spiky “Voices Carry”. They broke up in 1990 and Mann went solo, releasing the critically acclaimed Whatever in 1993 and following it up with 1995’s I’m With Stupid. Her songs inspired Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 ensemble epic Magnolia; “Save Me”, from that film, was nominated for an Oscar. In 2000 she bought back the rights to her unreleased album Bachelor No. 2 and successfully issued it on her own label, SuperEgo. Mann has gone on to release several more solo albums, as well as collaborations with punk legend Ted Leo (as The Both) and fellow MTV-era star Susanna Hoffs, filled with sharp writing and plush arrangements.
