For Gucci Mane, being the “GOAT” doesn’t only mean being the Greatest of All Time. On the Atlanta star’s 2024 project with Gangsta Grillz, he aims for a new title, labelling himself Greatest of All Trappers. While Gucci is a far cry from his early days as a hyper-prolific street hustler who just happened to rap, he retains some of that hungry energy on the new tape. Though the mixtape maven may have a few more zeroes in his bank account than in the days he hearkens back to on Greatest of All Trappers, he uses the project to showcase that he can still turn up the heat. Gucci leans old-school, spitting over hard-hitting piano, triplet hi-hats and heavy bass. If the trap beats don’t signal Gucci’s vitality, perhaps the one-liners do. Take “Questions”, which features that typical Gucci beat and more than a few clever refrains from the rapper. He spits: “Between my weed and my engine, I don’t know which one is louder/I call my race car a tiger because it growl.” Over two decades into his career, Gucci Mane is still coming up with fresh ways to talk about his favourite things.
