“The best part of re-recording these songs has been the ability to get creative with different arrangements,” Anthony Field tells Apple Music about their Home Session EP, featuring three new versions of Wiggles tracks and a White Stripes cover. As one of the Wiggles’ founding members, Field—the blue Wiggle—has been a part of the beloved kids’ music group for more than 30 years. Considering he and the group are typically on the road for around nine months each year, the pandemic brought a huge number of challenges and changes—but they made the most of the time, and have released more music than ever. “We’ve taken the extra time as an opportunity to embrace new ways of creating and sharing content, and engaging with our audience on digital platforms,” Field says. “We’ve also experimented with different types of music. For example, we released two albums of instrumental ambient music, as a tool for parents to lull babies to sleep.” The band itself has changed, too. “Tsehay [Hawkins] joined last year and has been the most wonderful injection of energy and new ideas,” Field says. “Tsehay has her own unique style of singing and dancing, which has breathed new energy into our songs. Audiences have immediately embraced her; it’s so beautiful to see children dressing up with sunflowers at our shows.” The Wiggles recorded their Home Session at their Hot Potato Studios. “We dusted off the old Fender Rhodes piano, which has such a unique and beautiful sound,” says Field. “Lachy [Gillespie] weaved it throughout all these versions, and it just adds a touch of magic.” It also marked their first time recording music in Spatial Audio. “It was incredible to hear the mix when it was finished,” he says. “To hear the music in such an immersive way is brilliant.” Read on for more on each track featured on The Wiggles’ Home Session. “Dippy Do Dinosaur Dance!” “This is a relatively new song, about Dorothy the Dinosaur, and it’s immediately become a real highlight at our concerts. Tsehay really comes into her own here, vocally. She has brought such an electric energy since she joined the group last year, and I think this version of the track really allows her sensational voice to shine.” “Do the Propeller!” “This has been a really big song with our audience over the last 10 years. We usually finish our live set with this song; it always feels like we’re finishing on a high. We simply couldn’t leave it out here.” “Fruit Salad” “We wanted to include an OG classic, so we chose ‘Fruit Salad’. We’ve had a lot of fun with that song over the last year after including it in our cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’ for Like A Version, and we think our fans have had a bit of fun with it too. To this this day, ‘yummy yummy’ remains a fun call-and-response moment at our concerts.” “We’re Going to Be Friends” (White Stripes cover) “This is a really sweet song originally performed by The White Stripes, which we covered on our recent ReWiggled album. It ended up being one of our favourites, so we took the opportunity to do another new arrangement here.”
