“How can I pledge allegiance to the flag?/When they killing all our sons, all our dads,” Meek Mill says on “Stay Woke”, the final track of this four-song EP. His performance of this at the BET Awards marked the Philly rap star’s return to the public eye following a short stint in jail for a probation violation, an experience that awakened in him a responsibility to address justice reform. Aside from this mission, Legends of the Summer is a collection of moods: “Dangerous”, a Jeremih and PnB Rock collaboration built on a flirty guitar loop, is Meek as hip-hop lothario, while “1am”, a song that recalls the energy of Meek Mill classic “House Party”, sounds primed for speedboat racing. Then there's the thundering Swizz Beatz-produced “Millidelphia”, a declaration that Meek will remain a force in rap as long as he has access to a recording booth.
