The North Queensland duo of Tom Busby and Jeremy Marou celebrate genuine human connection on their fifth studio album. “Conversation” encourages us to put our screens away and talk to each other in person, while “Everything Is Beautiful” closes the album with a rousing refrain about appreciating family and other joys of daily life. Busby Marou bolster those heartening themes with production that takes their warm and rootsy sound closer to commercial country at times, as heard on opener “Crazy Like That”. In a similar vein, writing collaborations with Darius Rucker, Gretta Ray and others lend fresh new dimensions to the pair’s earnest approach. After the loneliness of lockdown, Blood Red rings true as a compassionate call to come together again.
