For his take on an Apple Music Home Session, Nigerian Afro-fusion star Oxlade pays homage to one of his biggest inspirations with a cover of “Liberian Girl”, Michael Jackson’s 1987 megahit. “The song pays homage to my continent, the African race, and Michael Jackson happens to be one of the greatest to ever do it,” Oxlade tells Apple Music. “He’s my GOAT, and he’s one of the reasons I started making music. He’s the definition of a rock star, perfection, and that is who I’m trying to become.” Here, Oxlade also shares reimagined versions of some of his biggest hits, including “OVAMI”, a 2023 single originally released as a collab with Flavour, and “DKT”, released in 2020. “Change is constant; evolution is constant,” Oxlade (Ikuforiji Olaitan) explains. “You have to find a way to improve, strengthen your weaknesses and even strengthen your strengths more. I’ll say due to the people around me, the kind of music I listen to, the kind of producers I work with, my target, what I’m trying to become, who I’m trying to become has also inspired and helped me to evolve wisely and smartly. My environment that influences my growth.”
