When it’s time to create a DJ mix, Leah Chisholm, the Los Angeles-based DJ and producer known as LP Giobbi, often starts with piano. “Whenever I have the opportunity to play a longer set and really go on a journey, I start with chill, uplifting tracks that give me room to jam on top of them,” she tells Apple Music. “The longer, more stripped-back breakdowns leave space for piano improvisation.” In this Early Hours mix, you’ll hear a track that is particularly close to Chisholm’s heart: her 2022 remix of Jerry Garcia’s “An Odd Little Place”, a contemplative instrumental from 1972 that she reworked alongside DJ Tennis. “It’s one of my favourite songs from the remix album,” she says. “I just listened to the original track and followed along on the piano, grabbing on to some of my favourite themes and expanding upon them. My mom's voice is at the end; she’s a huge Deadhead. She passed her love of live music on to me, and you can hear her talking about it at the end of the track.”
