For all of the sweet, girly charm of album covers that featured the band in towels, bubble baths, and tutus, The Go-Go's had genuine L.A. punk cred. The band had formed in the scene surrounding Hollywood's notorious punk club The Masque, and lead singer Belinda Carlisle had even been the original drummer in The Germs. The pure-pop songwriting of guitarists Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin brought the group success, but a few months after the release of Talk Show, behind-the-scenes problems caused them to split in early 1985.
