Snail Mail Essentials

As Snail Mail, Lindsey Jordan achieved indie stardom before turning 20—but that early success hasn’t eased the angst that drives her evocative rock confessionals. Born in 1999, in Ellicott City, Maryland, Jordan picked up a six-string at age five and hasn’t looked back since, thanks in part to guitar teacher Mary Timony of ‘90s indie heroes Helium. With a touch of Timony’s influence, her emotionally raw sophomore EP, 2016’s Habit, scored her a spot on Matador Records’ roster. With albums like 2018’s introspective, guitar-powered Lush and 2021’s synths-and strings-swept Valentine, Jordan has blossomed into a complex songwriter, translating unrequited love and everyday ennui into deceptively catchy hooks that balance noise and intensity with bedroom intimacy.
