About The Tri-City Singers
Led by musical director Donald Lawrence, The Tri-City Singers were one of the most successful gospel music ensembles of the ’90s—and one of the few to crossover to the secular world. ∙ In 1990, prior to joining The Tri-City Singers, Lawrence served as vocal coach for the R&B/pop group En Vogue. ∙ A Songwriter’s Point Of View, the group’s first album, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart in 1993. ∙ House music producer Junior Vasquez remixed their 2000 single “Testify,” giving the ensemble their first non-Gospel hit, peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Dance Club Song chart. ∙ In 2006, they played their final concert, which featured performances by such gospel music luminaries as Karen Clark Sheard, Bishop Walter Hawkins, and Daryl Coley. ∙ The Tri-City Singers reunited in 2019 to release Goshen, which includes a collaboration with New Orleans funk band Tank & The Bangas. ∙ In 2020, Donald Lawrence was inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall Of Fame and took home four Stellar Awards with The Tri-City Singers.
