About Black Pumas
Black Pumas blend roots, hip-hop-inspired beats and unforgettable melodies into a wholly singular sound. The band’s singer, Eric Burton, got his start in Los Angeles busking on the Santa Monica Pier before eventually making his way east to Austin. From there, he met producer Adrian Quesada, who was in between projects and eagerly looking for a new artist to collaborate with. The duo began hashing out compositions at Austin's legendary C-Boy's Heart & Soul bar, where they eventually created the structure for their 2019 self-titled album, a collection that blended hazy blues chords with hip-hop-inspired drum beats and Burton’s powerfully soulful voice. After that LP earned the band a Grammy nomination, the group took some time off before releasing 2023’s Chronicles of a Diamond, which found them expanding their scope into psychedelic pop and more, while still staying true to their roots.
