When Charli XCX—the English pop star best known for subverting convention to craft futuristic hooks—decided she wanted to build a girl group from the ground up, documenting their origin story Josie and the Pussycats-meets-Making the Band-style, she had one objective in mind: to make them the biggest band in the world. One Netflix original series later (I'm With the Band: Nasty Cherry), she's found them: two Londoners, her tenured live drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson and novice bass player Georgia Somary, as well as two Los Angeles natives, Kitten frontwoman Chloe Chaidez and model-singer Gabbriette Bechtel. Nasty Cherry's cheekily titled debut EP, Season 1, is a short collection of suggestive '80s synth-pop filtered through The Runaways' rock 'n' roll spirit. According to their smoky single "Win", Nasty Cherry share the aim of their singer Svengali: They're "born to win".
