After Addison Rae’s highly anticipated debut album leaked in 2022, it seemed like those songs might never get an official release. But those versions of tunes like “2 die 4” and “I got it bad” swiftly became cult hits, garnering millions of listens on TikTok—the platform that originally made Rae an overnight sensation. Rae’s low-key surprise Instagram announcement that she “dug up a few of the leaks from the lost album” to be released a few days later was met with thousands of comments crowning her the saviour of pop music. With her four-track debut EP, Addison becomes a serious candidate for pop stardom, evoking pop royalty of the past and present with deliciously catchy bangers. The EP’s punchy opener, “I got it bad”, is an undeniable homage to Britney Spears herself and might prove to be a dark-horse late entry in the running for 2023’s song of the summer. As fans speculated, Charli XCX features on the next track, “2 die 4”, and booty-call anthem “Nothing On (But the Radio)” is an unreleased Lady Gaga bop (good luck getting that chorus out of your head). “it could’ve been u” closes the album on a rockier note, leaving us ready to dance and wanting more.
