Melophobia means “fear of music”, but there is nothing to be scared of on Cage the Elephant’s shimmering third album. The garage rockers build this catchy collection on spiralling guitars (“Telescope”), splashy drums (“It’s Just Forever”) and sunshine melodies that could break the thickest cloud cover (see: the ‘60s garage homage “Hypocrite”). Melophobia blends decades of mind-melting sounds to create a psych-infused monster of a rock ‘n’ roll record, before wrapping with the unforgettable, lush pop gem “Cigarette Daydreams”.
