Singer Samara Joy earned both the Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best New Artist Grammys in 2023 with her major-label debut, Linger Awhile. In the process, the Bronx native shocked music fans by serving notice that old-school jazz crooning was alive and well in the hands of a new generation. With a vocal maturity beyond her years and an ability to glide and swoop with the grace of a bird, Joy has the gift of making standards from the ’40s and earlier feel like they’ve just emerged fresh out of the oven.
