At Home with HAIM: The Playlist

LA pop-rock trio HAIM were in the middle of a promotional push for their upcoming album, Women in Music Pt. III, when the pandemic hit. “We had done one week of promo for our album, and within that one week, everything kind of came crumbling down,” vocalist/guitarist Danielle Haim tells Apple Music. “We were just like everyone else, just checking the news every day, and we knew that it probably wasn't the right time to release the album, because we just didn't even know what was going on.” After spending over a month in complete isolation, Danielle and her sisters/bandmates Alana (guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist) and Este (bassist/vocalist) reunited for the first time when they shot the music video for “I Know Alone”; they followed proper social distancing, of course, and were inspired to think of new and creative ways to promote the album. As they prepare for its June release, the trio have curated an exclusive Apple Music playlist with tracks that are keeping their moods up during this period of self-isolation, featuring artists like Arthur Russell, (Sandy) Alex G, Jay Electronica and Taio Cruz, whose 2010 club hit “Dynamite” Alana remembers fondly from when she graduated from high school. “I remember listening to it on the radio and I immediately freaked out,” she says. “I never really have a visceral reaction to a song, and I remember it came on—and I was like, ‘This is the song of the summer.’”
