About Ween
Often dismissed as a novelty group, Ween is known for eclectic records that range from radio-friendly rock to country to lo-fi experiments, as well as their marathon live performances. ∙ At a 1990 live show when the band had trash thrown at them, early supporter Henry Rollins got onstage and demanded that the audience give them respect. ∙ In late 1990, Ween released the debut album GodWeenSatan: The Oneness, a sprawling, two-LP set issued by the legendary Minnesota label Twin/Tone Records. ∙ Their 1992 single, “Push Th’ Little Daisies” became an alternative rock radio hit, thanks to an appearance on MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head. ∙ 12 Golden Country Greats, the band’s 1996 album, featured The Jordanaires and Bobby Ogdin, both famous for playing in Elvis Presley’s backing band. ∙ The creator of Spongebob Squarepants, Stephen Hillenburg, said that his show was inspired by Ween’s 1997 album, The Mollusk. ∙ After 27 years together, Ween called it quits in 2012, having played more than 800 shows and releasing 8 albums and 14 EPs. ∙ For the group’s 2016 reunion tour, they found themselves playing to larger audiences than ever, moving up to arenas and headlining major music festivals.
