M.I.A. is at her most brutally defiant on album No. 3, rendering (dis)information overload into a nonstop assault of throbbing industrial beats and digital dissonance. The deliberately abrasive pastiche batters with drills, saws, screeches, glitches and indefinable clatter through aggro rebel party anthems ("Teqkilla"), blown-out rock ("Meds and Feds", featuring Sleigh Bells' Derek E. Miller) and a thrilling Suicide-sampling call to arms ("Born Free"). Still, light shines through on the electro-pop banger "Xxxo" and the bright dancehall love song "It Takes a Muscle".
