HELP!

HELP!

HELP! feels like a declaration of independence. Known for his work with Bethel Music, Maverick City Music and Elevation Worship, Brandon Lake makes a bold break from praise & worship convention on his third solo album, a deeply personal statement that chronicles his mental-health struggles. On the blustery title track, Lake buckles under the weight of fear and self-doubt. The turmoil carries over to “Pharaoh (Let My People Go)”, a howling command for spiritual liberation powered by a Black Keys-style beat. As the record unfolds, hopeful sonic textures emerge, scraps of dreamy R&B and gentle folk that let listeners know Lake is reaching for God’s light. The hushed closer “Thank You” may find the singer/songwriter battered from the storm, yet it’s also an affirmation of Christian humility and gratitude made all the more touching thanks to prayerful vocals from his sons.
