Apple Music Sessions: Myles Smith

Apple Music Sessions: Myles Smith

“It is really cool to see that, even when you strip away all of the production and bring it back to the bare roots of the songs, they’re so beautiful in their own way,” singer-songwriter Myles Smith tells Apple Music. “And it really lets the lyrics speak.” That’s exactly what you can expect from the rising talent’s Apple Music Session, which features stripped-back takes of his own track “Stargazing” and a cover of Billie Eilish’s 2024 hit “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”. “I think that I chose ‘Stargazing’ because it’s a song that’s really connecting across the world and I wanted to be able to package it in a new light to give people a different experience of the song or maybe to absorb it in a different way,” he says. “With ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER’, I think it’s one of the most beautiful songs that was written this year.” But there was another reason he chose to cover an Eilish track. “I wanted to bring it back to an acoustic format where she started, but also where I started and where I found synergy in her music,” he says. “I thought it was a cool way to repackage a song that everyone knows and loves.” This session also marked a new way of working for Smith, who made it long-distance alongside his producer and collaborator Peter Fenn. “We actually collaborated a lot of this track over Zoom,” says Smith. “It was pretty cool because we hadn’t worked in that format before. But it meant that we were able to bring ourselves to the track a lot more and have a lot more fun on our own.” Press play on a serene session now.
