“The perfect place to play this [playlist] would be an afternoon walk through your neighbourhood or at the park on a nice day to set the vibe,” Samara Joy tells Apple Music of her exclusive summertime playlist. The Grammy Award winner selected tracks from her favourite artists, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nat “King” Cole and more. “I specifically chose tracks that are from live concerts and festivals because, as a performing artist, I’m inspired by the energy and creativity my favourite artists can evoke at any given moment,” she says. “Betty Carter’s ‘Caribbean Sun’ is a perfect example of such spontaneity, as well as ‘Nothing Like You’ sung by Cécile McLorin Salvant. Both are fun and decidedly individual interpretations of tunes not often performed, so listening to these tracks is like drawing from a never-ending well of inspiration.”
