Imagine a mix of backwoods folk and country, crossed with the eccentric California pop of Neil Young and Lindsey Buckingham, and you might wind up with Cass McCombs. With his fragile but affecting voice and a songwriting style that's offbeat but deeply inspired by American traditions, McCombs often resembles other mavericks who've made the country's music their own. A prolific singer/writer, McCombs recorded seven albums between 2003-2013 alone, and has called on guests as diverse as Phish bassist Mike Gordon and cult-hero actress Karen Black.
