About TSHA
Teisha Matthews’ music as TSHA comes on like the rush of infatuation: drums flickering like a quickened pulse, chords and vocals rosy as flushed cheeks. In fact, the Londoner has been living with electronic music since growing up in the 2000s. She came of age listening to her older brother DJ in his bedroom, while her mother regaled her with tales of ’80s raving. After honing her skills behind the decks, she found work as a mobile DJ, taught herself to produce, and spent her savings on the mixing and artwork for her debut EP, 2018’s Dawn. The overflowing emotion of her early work caught the ear of Ninja Tune, which released her Moonlight EP on its Counter Records sister label in 2019 before signing her to a multi-album deal. While clearly influenced by artists like Four Tet, TSHA has reinforced her uniqueness with every release, mixing house beats with the atmospheric melodies of alt-pop and avant-R&B.
