Zane Lowe: “I had a really great time putting together this 60-minute mix for New Year's Eve. I wasn’t quite sure where to start, so I just picked a song called 'The Show, Pt. 1' by Irish Coffee, which is kind of this strange ’60s or ’70s prog-rock-type anthem. And I just loved the whole groove and the feel and the theme of it, and from there I just followed the thread, which took me through a whole bunch of hard hip-hop records, which have a similar feel—very dynamic. It ended up taking me through some classic hip-hop into disco territory, and then it went pretty deep and percussive, and came out the other side with a whole bunch of big hands-in-the-air, French-touch-influenced club bangers.” Depending on where you were this past year, dancing likely happened in fits and starts. But what’s been constant is the renewed sense of optimism with which the world’s best DJs are attacking their craft. To close out 2021, Apple Music has invited more than 20 of them to compile exclusive mixes that considered the year that was and the year that will be, bringing us ever more closer to that time when we can all dance together again.
