Much like his hero MF DOOM, the gold-coloured mask that Golden Features wears makes up a great deal of his persona. The Sydney artist, born Thomas Stell, has built up a reputation for snarling, nocturnal beats and waves of ecstatic release. SECT was his deep and dark manifesto, yielding crowd favourites like “Falling Out” and “Worship.” But Raka, his 2019 tag-team EP with The Presets, as well as BRONSON, his 2020 project with ODESZA, solidified a collaborative mindset as open and exploratory as his solo output. Vocalists like lau.ra (“HEART ATTACK”), Nicole Millar (“Tell Me”), Californian rapper K.Flay (“Telescope”) and folk hero Julia Stone (“Wolfie”) have all graced his tracks, proving that his experimental mind—as well as his studio door—remains open.
