Antidote

Fontaines D.C. grab the headlines for Antidote this week as the arrival of album four delivers a new single, “In the Modern World”. On Romance (out now), the Dublin-based boys join with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Foals)—and hone a new direction—across an absorbing 11-track set. “In the Modern World”, recently premiered by Fontaines D.C. at an August gig in Slovenia, takes influence from the dystopian “man against nature” concept of Japanese cult manga Akira. “Grian [Chatten] wrote this song when he was in LA,” drummer Tom Coll tells Apple Music about the track. “He was really inspired by Lana Del Rey and stuff like that. Hollywood, the glitz and the glamour, but it’s actually this decrepit place. It’s that whole idea of faded glamour.” Hear it now, plus essential new tracks from Rex Orange County, Nilüfer Yanya and Aziya. Like all those artists, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
