About Patty Griffin
With her fluid vocal style and reflective lyrics, singer/songwriter Patty Griffin became a major figure in the U.S. folk/Americana scene in the 2000s. Born in Maine in 1964, Griffin became a mainstay in New England folk clubs, and in 1996 A&M Records released her spare, acoustic-oriented debut album, Living with Ghosts. Two years later, the more electric, rocking follow-up Flaming Red showed a very different side of her musical personality. Griffin went on to win Grammy awards for 2010’s gospel-flavoured Downtown Church and her 2019 self-titled album. She also became personally and professionally linked with Robert Plant, recording and touring with him from 2010 to 2014 in his rootsy but rocking Band of Joy. Griffin’s emotionally intense yet musically seamless tunes have been covered by Emmylou Harris, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Linda Ronstadt and many others, and she’s been heard on the soundtracks to countless films and TV shows, remaining a quintessential cult favourite.
