About Deborah Cox
Canadian singer Deborah Cox became an R&B superstar in the ’90s and scored a massive US hit with the 1998 single “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”. She's also topped the US dance charts more than a dozen times. • At age 12, the Toronto native got her start singing in TV commercials. • While singing backup for Celine Dion, she caught the ear of industry legend Clive Davis, who signed her to Arista Records. • The singer’s self-titled 1995 debut album yielded a pair of Top 40 US hits: “Sentimental” and “Who Do U Love”. • Her 1998 sophomore album, One Wish, yielded her biggest hit, “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”. The single reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, where it held the top spot for a then-record 14 weeks. • In 2019, the single “Let the World Be Ours Tonight” gave Cox her 13th No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. • Cox is often compared to Whitney Houston, and she rerecorded a handful of the late icon’s hits for the controversial 2015 Lifetime biopic Whitney. • She’s also earned success as an actress, appearing in the 2000 film Love Come Down and starring in the Broadway show Aida in 2004. • Cox won the Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year in 1996, 1998 and 1999.
