The fourth EP from Sydney rapper and producer Kwame is very much a showcase for his range. With each of the four tracks clocking in under three minutes, the Auckland-born artist of Ghanaian heritage moves confidently between modes that often stand in stark contrast to each other. Opener “Whats the Move” sees him intone fierce threats in low, soft tones over jarring digital glitches, while “Nonewbidniz” brandishes more aggressive trash-talking against a spacey backdrop. Just when you think the heat level will continue to spike from there, “Pricey” suddenly favours the mellow and low-slung and the closing “2Much” plays like a sensitive love song, complete with weepy synth lines and Auto-Tuned pleas. A year after his rapid-fire team-up with Tasman Keith on 2021’s “ONE”, Kwame continues to surprise with both the energy and nuance of his work.
