Welcome to Ministry of Social Welfare

Welcome Mrs Melrose Karminty Minister of Social Welfare.

She had her undergraduate studies at Njala University College and her masters degree at the London Southbank University in the UK, where she graduated with distinction in International Development Studies. She also has a diploma in project management. She taught at the Methodist girls' High School and Technical Institute and worked as program specialist for the DDR program. She was also the program specialist and later served as Acting Country Manager for UNwomen. Our minister also has the international experience as a lead gender consultant for UNDP Sumalia who developed their gender policy. She returned home in 2017 supported her party in developing the New Direction Manifesto of 2018. She became a member of the governance Transition team after President Bio won the elections in 2018. HE appointed her first as dep minister works and public asset and later Dep minister Local Govt in the past government. Due to her exemplary performance, she has now been appointed as our new minister of Social Welfare.

Empowering and transforming the lives of vulnerable or underprivileged persons and families including young people, women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. We do this through coordinated development and implementation of laws, policies, and programs that promote their welfare and safeguard their rights including religious tolerance.
