Dear Management of Mercure, I recently booked a room at the Hotel Mercure Paris 19 Philharmonie La Villette through your website, for a stay from July 29th to July 30th. Based on the photos on your homepage, the hotel appeared promising. Having frequently stayed at Mercure and Ibis hotels in Germany, I was accustomed to a certain standard of service and quality, even at 2- to 3-star properties. Your hotel is rated 4 stars, and while the rate of 300 euros per night seemed high, I accepted it, understanding that it was during the Olympic season. However, my experience was nothing short of appalling and a severe disappointment to your brand, which I have always associated with good service and quality accommodations. The room I was given was simply unacceptable. It was dirty, the bathroom had a very unpleasant odor, and the overall condition of the room was outdated and did not resemble the images on your website. I was particularly embarrassed because I had brought my wife along on this business trip, and she was equally shocked by the state of the room. The most distressing issue was that the air conditioning did not function, despite the outside temperature reaching 35 degrees. This made the room unbearably hot, exacerbating the already foul smell. When I inquired at the reception about the air conditioning, I was told that the system couldn't cool all the rooms because the hotel was full. It is unacceptable to advertise air conditioning as an amenity when it clearly cannot be provided, especially at these excruciating temperatures. If this is the case, guests should be informed beforehand. I requested to be moved to another room, but I was told that the hotel was fully booked, which was blatantly untrue as I found available rooms online. The reception staff, though friendly, seemed inexperienced and ill-equipped to handle such situations. There was no proper manager on-site to address my concerns, which is extremely disappointing for a hotel that claims to be 4-star. With no assistance or resolution offered, I had no choice but to leave and rebook at another hotel. Fortunately, I found a room at the Est Hotel nearby for only 180 euros, which provided a superb experience in stark contrast to the dismal conditions at your hotel. I consider what I encountered at your property not only a bad joke but bordering on fraud. When I requested a refund, I was told it was not possible. Additionally, I was charged for two days of garage usage, despite not using it, and this refund request was also denied. This has been one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had with a hotel, let alone a supposed 4-star property, and I have traveled to at least 30 different countries. Very disappointing. I did not read reviews of this hotel until after I checked in. I think Accor should read my - and many others' - reviews as soon as possible. Briefly: poor interaction at the check in; they did not have my reservation on record, and I had to produce my confirmation email, and they said "they could accommodate me" (that is what the reservation is for?); the room was EXTREMELY hot, and there was an air conditioning unit, unplugged, not set up, had to cool off the room and it took HOURS. There was no washcloth or hand towel, not very clean. We had stayed for 5 nights previous to that at a Marriott property which is what I will choose next time. Please read the reviews on Google. Pay attention - this should have cost ~40 euros/night, not 400.
