Prologue A sudden sound of crashing leaves and limbs break the night silence. Panting and rustling follows, a fleeing figure is seen in silhouette by the light of the stars and moon. How many countless miles have they been chased? Are they still being perused? Why is there nowhere to hide? A cold wind slowly slithers over the nearly barren plains. The ground is hard, baked to cracking point by the daytime sun. It was night now, and the temperature had dropped drastically from the high 90s to the low 40s (in Fahrenheit). All along the open plains in between the distant rocky hills lay a scattering of small tough shrubs, some resilient grasses, and a few tall cacti. Here and there were a few large rocks and stones.
