Django 2.0 released

Version 2.0 of the Django web framework has been released. This version drops support for Python 2.x, and adds a long list of new features; see the announcement for details.

This will probably push adoption to Python 3 more than any other marketing effort in the Python ecosystem.

And also push "If you didn't write or update all the code for all your projects to the latest version of Django then you are SOL" more than any previous Django version. Talk about an upgrade treadmill! It's time for this project to bite the bullet and start providing longer term security support.

Django 1.11 LTS is supported until "at least" April 2020.

(Python 2.7 is supported until 2020, although the exact date hasn't been announced yet. I think Django plans to match the support dates exactly.)

Python 2 upstream will be. Distributions including RHEL will support it for much longer.
