Abstract

The relationship of Prochloron sp. isolated from four different didemnid ascidian hosts, namely Lissoclinum patella, Lissoclinum voeltzkowi, Diplosoma virensand Trididemnum cyclops was elucidated by comparative analysis of their 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid (RNA). The oligonucleotide catalogues of the 16S rRNA obtained are almost identical, indicating a very close relationship among the prochlorophytes investigated. Phylogenetically Prochloron is a member of Cyanobacteriales.
