Summer Internship Program

Jazz continues to move forward in its journey of digital transformation and thought leadership for the industry. Our #PeopleFirst philosophy guides talent identification and people development for every tier and function, with youth development being a key focus to nurture leaders of tomorrow.

Jazz launched its flagship Summer Internship Program 2019 in June and welcomed 80 interns for the duration of 8 weeks. This cohort was selected through a competitive process through which more than 10,000 students applied from all over Pakistan. The selected interns got to work on key projects in different functions at 11 locations across Pakistan. The recruitment process was driven with the #EmployerForAll mindset with which diversity through gender and perspectives got channeled for this year’s internship cohort.

Through the years, the Summer Internship Program has allowed us to keep vitality and influx of fresh perspectives alive while coaching and training young talent.

Ensuring the learning and engagement of our interns was possible through peer-to-peer learning, mentoring from line managers, and exciting projects. It was essential to instill the Jazz Values and spark the appetite to stay curious for continuous learning.

Jazz’s Summer Internship Program concluded with a graduation ceremony for the interns where they got to mingle with their peers, say goodbyes, and get sage advice from the senior leadership. We wish our interns’ good luck in their future endeavors and look forward to their success stories!

Smart School Program

The Jazz Smart School (JSS) Program uses mobile technology based on open industry standards to help improve student learning outcomes and teaching methodology. With the introduction of performance dashboards on mobile applications and web-portals, results are being used to improve teaching quality and accountability. JSS also addresses the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and is further aligned with Pakistan’s Vision 2025 (http://pc.gov.pk/web/vision). It addresses three key SDGs: 1) SDG 4 – Quality Education: ensuring that all and teachers acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development in an equitable manner, 2) SDG 5 – Gender Equality: enhancing the use of technology as an enabling factor to not only provide quality education, but also promote empowerment of women, and 3) SDG 9 – Industry Innovation & Infrastructure: promoting private-sector-led growth by empowering youth through technology and introducing innovative digital solutions.

Jazz Smart School (JSS) Program was launched as a pilot two-year program and has been operational since October 2017. The program recorded significant improvement in five areas: 1) student learning outcomes, 2) teaching quality, 3) student engagement, 4) use of technology, and 5) accountability and monitoring of results using performance dashboards. Pre-tests were organized for all 20,000 students in the program to evaluate their current learning levels based on subjects they studied in previous grades. The internal mid-term evaluation results recorded an improvement of up to 30% in student learning outcomes. The formal results of the JSS program will be measured once these students appear for their external board examinations scheduled in April 2019. The results will be used to measure performance against previous board examination results where students/teachers were part of the traditional education model and did not have access to mobile technology. The digital learning platform has exposed students from underprivileged backgrounds to use mobile technology in education for the first time. Learning content is available online at www.learnsmartpakistan.org, which has promoted access to quality education for all students where they can continue to learn at their pace once they go back home by accessing computers, tablets or smartphones.

The program has been designed to increase student learning outcomes of 25,000+ female students and improve teaching methodologies of 600+ female teachers by a smart learning solution deployed through a digital blended learning platform across 75 female public-sector schools in Islamabad, Pakistan.
