Brilliant, but it’s missing a few most needed features

I switched from Excel because I am us8ng my iPad a lot more, and Numbers once you get used to it in a short time is a breath of fresh air. It’s great that you can have multiple tables within a sheet so that you can operate independent on each table....brilliant! The output looks clean and colourful and organised, unlike Excel. However the following features should be a must even for the iPad version....Format copy-need this so badly but does not exist, Auto sum when you select a bunch of numbers...it’s there on the Mac but not on iPad. A toolbar right at the top with icons for formatting instead of having to open the format pane...just reduces the finger clicks one needs to do. I do notice a bug some times...if numbers has been “open” for a long time, sometimes when you add a new cell with a formula, it does not auto calculate...just shows blank. Was wondering what was happening...but it gets fixed if I close the numbers app completely and re open it. Other than that, this is now my go-to spreadsheet app. Apple has done a great job here as an alternative to Excel.

I don’t even think about the other spreadsheet

Once I left work I decided to give the Apple Works apps a try out. I’d always used Mail and I found Pages very easy to change over to as it had everything I needed and nothing I didn’t. Numbers took a bit longer to get used to but once I started using the formulas I found I could do everything and it was just simpler to work with. And then I found pivot tables (or they might have been added a bit later) I had everything I was used to and more. Nifty things like conditional highlighting and being able to transpose a whole selection of rows and columns. Unlike Excel, once I learned something I didn’t have to go back and read how to do it again. I’m amazed how much I can even work on Numbers on my iPhone! Like everything else (well apart from Preview crashing) it just works and it feels intuitive now.

Excellent Spreadsheet for Apple Devices

I have used an Apple device (iPad) as my main computer for well over a decade. The applications that I use the most are Safari (browser), Files and Numbers (well, Pages, too). As a free application, Numbers is a fully functioned spreadsheet. I would consider myself a moderately sophisticated spreadsheet user yet I have not been limited by Numbers functionality. The in-built functions cover data, statistics, arithmetic and mathematical use, plus more. The ability to import and export data is really useful as well, enabling the user to perform analysis on data from external providers (banks, retailers, travel providers, etc.). As one who has used spreadsheets from back in the era of VisiCalc and Lotus 1-2-3, I can recommend Numbers to mobile spreadsheet users.
