Octavia’s Holiday Event

During the winter break ISANA Octavia was invited to participated in a few community events during the holiday season . First event was the Noche de Paz at Juntos Park, there was free food, activities, groceries, and toys for the community.

Thank you Juntos Park, cant wait for Noche De Paz 2024 the 2nd Event was Santas Village Toy Give Away hosted by Manos Que Sobreviven where Santa made an appearance and handed out toys and groceries for the communityDurante las vacaciones de invierno, ISANA Octavia fue invitada a participar en algunos eventos comunitarios durante la temporada navideña. El primer evento fue la Noche de Paz en Juntos Park, hubo comida, actividades, comestibles y juguetes gratis para la comunidad. Gracias Juntos Park, no puedo esperar a la Noche De Paz 2024.

El segundo evento fue el sorteo de juguetes de Santas Village organizado por Manos Que Sobreviven, donde Santa hizo acto de presencia y repartió juguetes y comestibles para la comunidad.

Hello Families… as we start to prepare for next weeks’ Fall break, I wanted to share with you our Fall iReady Challenge.

Next week, during Fall Break if students complete:

-70 minutes of Reading and Math
AND
-Have a passing rate of 70% for Reading and Math

Then students will earn a movie ticket to redeem during the school day! They don’t want to miss out of this super fun activity!

The Great Shakeout

Dear Lions,

As residents of ‘Earthquake Country,’ we need to know how to protect ourselves during earthquakes. Yesterday, our school community participated in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill.

Each year more than twenty-five million people participate in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills worldwide, in K-12 schools, colleges, businesses, government agencies, other organizations, and households.

Participants practice the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” response in addition to other aspects of their emergency plans:

DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!),
COVER your head and neck with your arms and seek additional shelter by getting under a sturdy desk or table if nearby; and
HOLD ON to your shelter and be prepared to move with it until the shaking stops.

If there is no table or desk near you, drop to the ground and then, if possible, get next to an interior wall of the room. Be in a crawling position to protect your vital organs and be ready to move if necessary, covering your head and neck with your hands and arms. Do not move to another location or run outside – earthquakes occur without any warning and may be so violent that you cannot run or crawl.

Yesterday, we conducted a full evacuation drill at both campuses. All faculty, staff, and students practiced DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON and then proceeded outdoors to the safe evacuation area.

Teachers brought along with them their walkie-talkies and Emergency Backpacks, which includes a first aid kit, our School Safety Plan, and emergency contact class rosters.

Our designated staff members, consisting of RSP Teachers, Campus Aides, VAPA Teachers, Paraprofessionals, the Office Team, and the Leadership Team, assisted with the Search & Rescue to ensure all students & staff were safe and accounted for.

As in an actual earthquake, everyone was mindful of buildings, power lines, or other possible hazardous conditions.

Our ShakeOut drill went smoothly and we are better prepared in the event of a real earthquake!

Talk with your child about their experience and about ways to prepare at home.

Como residentes del ‘País de los Terremotos’, necesitamos saber cómo protegernos durante los terremotos. Ayer, nuestra comunidad escolar participó en el simulacro de terremoto Great ShakeOut.

Cada año, más de veinticinco millones de personas participan en los simulacros de terremoto Great ShakeOut en todo el mundo, en escuelas K-12, colegios, empresas, agencias gubernamentales, otras organizaciones y hogares.

Los participantes practican la respuesta “Agacharse, cubrirse y agarrarse” además de otros aspectos de sus planes de emergencia:

Ayer llevamos a cabo un simulacro de evacuación completa de ambos campus. Todos los profesores, el personal y los estudiantes practicaron AGARRARSE, CUBIERTARSE y AGARRARSE y luego se dirigieron al aire libre hacia el área de evacuación segura.

Three lucky 6th graders won this months raffle and as a prize they got to pie Mr. Cohen, their 6th grade teacher. It’s not everyday you get this opportunity ????
