NBA could look at potential investment from Gulf states?

The NBA, according to a league source, is considering a number of possibilities. One would include a league that includes current European basketball teams, and could include possible investment from the Gulf states. The NBA has been working with a financial firm, The Raine Group, to take stock of its opportunities.
Silver said Tuesday that one thing the league must figure out is how to come into that region in a way that is not hostile to the existing infrastructure. It has been working with FIBA to learn more about that area and would involve it in the possible new league. “Where we are in terms of the level of interest in basketball is not commensurate with the level of commercial activities,” Silver said. He added: “The way all of us see it, it’s not just about a basketball opportunity. We’ve been in this position in our league before where if you can’t demonstrate to the market that you can’t run a successful business it’s not sustainable.”
As reported yesterday by BeBasket’s Gabriel Pantel-Jouve and confirmed today by L’Equipe, the 61-year-old head coach won’t be leading anymore France, in a generational change involving some of the brightest European talents in today’s basketball landscape. At the helm of the French national team, he won two Olympic silver medals (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), two World Cup bronze medals (Spain 2014 and China 2019), and four EuroBasket medals (bronze at France 2015, silver at Lithuania 2011 and Germany 2022, and gold at Slovenia 2013).
Following his participation in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Valencia, Sochan is gearing up for the next major international challenge. Discussing his expectations for the upcoming EuroBasket, Sochan highlighted the importance of thorough preparation. “Looking to the next summer, I think we need to prepare better mentally and physically. We need to be ready,” he said in a message shared by the Polish Basketball Federation. He added that the excitement of playing at home, in front of their crowd, provides an additional boost.

Nikola Vucevic on international play: 'If they played by NBA rules, the US would be even stronger'

However, Vucevic believes that if international tournaments were played according to NBA rules, it would be much harder for other countries to beat the U.S. national team. “If NBA rules were applied, it would be much harder for FIBA teams. First, the three-point line in the NBA is half a meter farther, which is not small in basketball. The three seconds in defense is also a big deal; I know that from my experience. It’s different offensively, too; it’s much easier for me to cover space on defense here than there. If they played by NBA rules, the U.S. would be even stronger.”
