Education

The mission of HAI’s education portfolio is to empower emerging leaders and high-impact decision-makers with cutting-edge research on artificial intelligence. Together, we can respond thoughtfully to the societal and ethical implications of AI -- whether in government, business, higher education, K-12, civil society, or as informed citizens.

HAI Provides Educational Content Tailored to Five Audiences

 

  • Focusing on AI technologies across industries and their business implications, Stanford faculty offer courses for leaders and key decision-makers.

    • Custom Programs: In a collaborative, multistep process, we will work with you and your organization to assess your needs and design your program.
    • Generative AI: Technology, Business and Society: This program, developed by Stanford Online and Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), explore technical fundamentals, business implications, and societal considerations, all with a focus on putting people first.
    • Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation and Strategic Impact: This program, developed in by Stanford Graduate School of Business and Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, will give you the technology lay of the land — from generative AI and full autonomy to whatever comes next. You’ll discover best practices and lessons learned from industry leaders who are actually using AI.

     

  • Exploring the unique opportunities and challenges that AI presents in civil society, philanthropy, and nonprofits.

    • Designing Your Human-Centered AI Strategy: The Social Sector Cohort: The social sector plays a critical role in shaping the future of AI. In this program, leaders in social impact organizations, such as nonprofits and philanthropy, will learn how to integrate AI into their organization’s impact strategy, policies, and programmatic initiatives. 
  • Focusing on the opportunities and risks of AI technologies in particular application areas, government leaders and civil servants gain the knowledge needed to think critically about regulating and governing this emerging technology to ensure it benefits everyone 

    • Congressional Bootcamp: Convenes staffers from both the House and Senate on Stanford University’s campus in a multi-day, bi-partisan boot camp consisting of sessions on international security, future of work, healthcare, and more.
    • AI for Public Servants: This program, developed by Stanford Online, Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) and Apolitical, aims to provide the knowledge to help steer AI innovation in the right direction through core topic areas such as technology fundamentals, social implications, biases and trust, regulation, and more.

     

  • Educating the next generation of AI leaders is core to what HAI is all about. Essential to this mission are leaders and decision makers within the K-12 ecosystem, teachers, and students

    AI4ALL: This program aims to increase diversity in the field of artificial intelligence. During this three-week online program, students are immersed in AI through a combination of lectures, hands-on research projects, and mentoring activities.

    CRAFT: Empowering students and teachers with free resources to help teach high school students in all subject areas to understand and question Artificial Intelligence

     

  • Stanford’s seven leading schools on the same campus enable HAI to offer a multidisciplinary approach to education. The courses listed here are courses taught by the faculty leaders of HAI.

    • Human-Centered AI Concentration: This concentration within the Symbolic Systems Program offers students the opportunity to gain knowledge across topics areas core to ensuring the benefits of artificial intelligence are broadly shared 
    • Courses: HAI believes in the integration of AI across human-centered systems and applications in a setting that can only be offered by Stanford University. Stanford’s seven leading schools on the same campus enable HAI to offer a multidisciplinary approach to education.
